Division leading Tigers send ace Tarik Skubal to the mound against the slumping Angels. Watch for free on Fubo today.

On a six-game losing streak and having lost 13 of their last 16 games, the Los Angeles Angels face the reigning AL Cy Young Award winner Tarik Skubal as the Detroit Tigers continue their western road trip on Friday night in Anaheim. Skubal (3-2, 2.34 ERA) has won three of his last four starts allowing just two earned runs in that span after suffering losses in his first two outings where he gave up seven earned runs over 10.2 innings of work. The Angels will look to third-year right-hander Jose Soriano (2-4, 4.50 ERA) to slow down a Tigers offense that holds the fourth best batting average in the American League and the fourth best run differential in all of baseball outscoring opponents by 46 runs through 32 games this season.

Tigers first baseman Spencer Torkelson, the number one overall pick in the 2020 MLB Draft, snapped his four-game hitless streak in Thursday’s 10-4 win over Los Angeles with a two-run homer in the ninth inning for his team-leading ninth home run of the season tying him for fourth most in Major League Baseball. Torkelson had a breakout season in 2023 hitting a career high 31 home runs and 94 RBIs before struggling through 2024 having been demoted to Triple-A Toledo to work on his mechanics before making a return to the 40-man roster in time for Detroit’s first playoff appearance in a decade.

With star right-fielder Mike Trout out of the lineup with a knee injury, Angels catcher Logan O’Hoppe now becomes the focal point of the Los Angeles offense as he is now tied for the team lead in hits with nine of his 26 base knocks being home runs. With five hits in his last three games, including a pair of solo home runs, O’Hoppe now has the team lead in total bases and is one homer shy of his third straight season with 10 or more homers.

Detroit has won four of the last five games in this series dating back to June of 2024 and each of the last two games played in Anaheim.
