Division leading Tigers open six-game road trip north of the border as their weekend series against the Blue Jays begins

Winners of 11 of their last 14 games, the American League Central-leading Detroit Tigers look for a fourth straight victory and fifth consecutive road win on Friday night as they open a three-game weekend series against the Toronto Blue Jays inside Rogers Centre. The Blue Jays are 1-2 so far on their current nine-game home stand after dropping a mid-week series to Tampa Bay as they turn to veteran right-hander Bowden Francis (2-5, 5.40 ERA), who is in search of his first win in his last five starts. The Tigers will counter with righty Jack Flaherty (1-5, 4.61 ERA,) who is winless in his last six outings, allowing four or more earned runs in each of his last three starts.

After signing a 14-year, $500 million extension earlier this season, Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero, Jr. is hitting a team-high .294 and has at least one in 15 of his last 16 games. The 26-year-old Montreal native has seen a dip in his power numbers this season after belting 30 home runs and driving in 103 runs last year and is on pace for his lowest home run output since the pandemic-shortened season in 2020. Guerrero has hit 26 or more home runs in each of the last four seasons, including a career high 48 during the 2021 campaign.

Tigers left fielder Riley Greene is having a breakout season, hitting .273 with 10 home runs through his first 42 games and is on pace to shatter his career highs of 24 homers and 74 RBIs he tallied during the 2024 campaign. In his fourth season in the majors, Greene is 17 hits away from 400 for his career.

Detroit won five of the seven meetings against the Blue Jays last season including winning two of three in Toronto in July of 2024.
