The Blue Jays are now sitting in third place in the American League East and trail the leading New York Yankees by four games. The Tigers are currently leading the American League Central with a 30-16 record and have a four game lead over the second-place Minnesota Twins.

The Tigers opened the scoring in Saturday’s game after Spencer Torkelson hit his 12th home run of the season, a solo shot to left field in the top of the second inning. Torkelson has been one of the Tigers’ most dangerous weapons and is only one of five players from the franchise since 2000 to hit 12 or more home runs in the first 46 games of the season. Detroit turned a double play in the seventh to preserve the lead, but in the bottom of the eighth, Alejandro Kirk hit a game-tying single down the right field line. In the bottom of the ninth, Ernie Clement stepped up to the plate and brought the game-winning run home with a walk-off single.
