The American League Central-leading Detroit Tigers are on the road on Monday, as they begin a three-game series against the St. Louis Cardinals.
The last five games the Detroit Tigers (31-16) have played have all been decided by a one-score margin. They won four of those five, and have won five of their last six and 13 of their last 17 overall. Is another close game in store when they return to the field on Monday night, when the Tigers travel to Busch Stadium to take on the St. Louis Cardinals in the first game of a three-game interleague series?

In their most recent win, the Tigers beat the Toronto Blue Jays 3-2 on Sunday to take their Rivalry Weekend series. First baseman Spencer Torkelson was the star for the Tigers in that game, driving in all three runs in a 2-for-4 performance.
Torkelson, the first overall pick in the 202 MLB Draft, has been a key part of the Tigers’ lineup this year. In 46 games he’s hitting .244 while leading the team with 12 doubles, 12 home runs and 38 runs driven in.
The Tigers meet a Cardinals team that has also been playing well. They’ve won 12 of their last 14 games, although they did lose 2-1 on Sunday to the Kansas City Royals as they missed the sweep in their own Rivalry Weekend series.
As this series begins, high-scoring games should be on the table. To this point in the season these are two of the most productive offenses in baseball – the Tigers ranked fourth in the league having scored 253 runs, while the Cardinals rank seventh with 224 runs of their own.
