Division-leading Tigers open three-game mid-week series inside the beltway against the surging Orioles

Winners of 10 of their last 14 games, the Baltimore Orioles return home to Oriole Park at Camden Yards on Tuesday night as they begin a six-game home stand with the first game in a three-game series against visiting Detroit Tigers who own a comfortable seven-game lead in the American League Central Division and hold the best record in baseball. Detroit has alternated wins and losses over the last seven games, having split a series at the White Sox but rebounded to take two of three from the Cubs over the weekend. The Tigers will send second-year right-hander Sawyer Gibson-Long (0-0, 7.36 ERA) to the mound in his sixth Major League start and only his second start since 2023.

Tigers left fielder Riley Greene leads Detroit with 122 total bases and tops the team with his .276 batting average so far this season. Greene, the fifth overall pick in the 2019 MLB Draft, made his big-league debut in 2022 and has seen his numbers continue to rise, posting career highs in hits, doubles, home runs and RBIs in each of his first three seasons. The 24-year-old Orlando, Florida native is hitting a blistering .345 with four multi-hit games already in June.

Ryan O’Hearn ranks eighth in MLB hitting .316 this season, leading Baltimore in hits, is second on the team in home runs, and is third with 24 RBIs so far this season. The Orioles right-fielder closed out May on a 10-game hitting streak to finish the month with a .365 batting average.

Detroit has won seven of the last nine meetings in this series, including a sweep of the Orioles back in late April, where they outscored Baltimore 17-5 in the three-game set.
