The Detroit Tigers look to avoid losing seven games in a row when they face-off against the Texas Rangers on Sunday night.

Sunday Night Baseball is back, as the Texas Rangers go for the sweep of the Detroit Tigers. The Tigers are trying to avoid the same fate that they ended the first half of the season. Detroit has lost six games in a row after winning five in a row before this current streak. This is not like the 2025 Tigers who were only swept once before this in a three-game series, and that came in the first series of the season against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Detroit has been one of the best teams in baseball in the first half. The good news for the Tigers is that despite this skid, Detroit still leads the American League Central by 11 games over Cleveland. Texas will go for its fourth win in a row tonight, sitting a game over .500 and 6.5 games back in the American League West.

Pitching has been the catalyst for the Rangers, only giving up one run over the course of the first two games. That was particularly the case in a 4-1 win on Saturday. Kumar Rocker took a no-hitter into the sixth inning. The Rangers starter would finish the night going 6.1 scoreless innings while only giving up one hit to improve to 4-4. Wenceel Pérez of the Tigers hit a two-out single to end the bid. Texas only had four hits on the night, but made them count. Rowdy Tellez hit a three-run homer in the second inning in just his second game with the club. Tellez was designated for assignment by the Mariners and was released by the team on June 26. It looks like a change of scenery has already been a huge benefit. Detroit’s lone run came in the ninth inning off a Riley Greene solo shot.

As if the Texas rotation wasn’t giving Detroit enough problems, the Rangers will start Nathan Eovaldi for the finale. The veteran righty is 7-3 with a 1.58 ERA. But the Tigers will come more than prepared as they are expected to start their best pitcher and American League All-Star starter Tarik Skubal. The lefty has been absolutely dominate this season with a 10-3 record and a 2.23 ERA. This pitching matchup absolutely meets the moment for this primetime Sunday night showdown.
