With his team leading 139 total bases this season, Rays third baseman Junior Caminero has posted career highs in runs, hits, doubles, stolen bases, home runs and RBIs this season. Caminero was undrafted when he signed a free agent deal with Cleveland in 2019 and was acquired by Tampa Bay in November of 2021 making his big-league debut as a September call up in 2023 before earning the starting job the following year only to miss half of the season due to a quad injury. The 21-year-old native of the Dominican Republic has 10 hits in his last six games with three multi-hit efforts in that span.

The Tigers will start Sawyer Gipson-Long (0-0, 3.97 ERA) in his fourth outing since being called up on June 4 after missing the entire 2024 campaign as he recovered from Tommy John surgery. A sixth-round selection by Minnesota in the 2019 MLB Draft, Gipson-Long was dealt to Detroit in 2022 in exchange for pitcher Michael Fulmer.

Detroit has won five of the last seven games in this series but Tampa Bay was won seven of the last nine meetings at home.
