The Detroit Tigers look for a third straight Grapefruit League win when they visit the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday.

While the Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago Cubs get the regular season under way in Japan, the rest of Major League Baseball continues the spring training grind. The Detroit Tigers (11-10) look for a third consecutive win in Grapefruit League play on Wednesday when they visit the Boston Red Sox (13-9) at JetBlue Park at Fenway South in Fort Myers, Florida. The Tigers on Monday narrowed the field at third base by optioning Jace Jung to Triple-A after a 4-for-33 showing this spring. Boston, meanwhile, seems all but certain to open the season with outfielder Masataka Yoshida on the injured list as his recovery from shoulder surgery continues.

Newcomer Gleyber Torres, signed as a free agent, is 8-for-27 with three homers a team-high 10 RBIs.

The Red Sox are banged up. Besides Yoshida, right fielder Wilyer Abreu is day-to-day with an illness and infielder Romy Gonzalez is day-to-day with a tight oblique. Fourth outfielder Trayce Thompson has swung a hot bat in Florida, going 10-for-33 with six home runs and 13 RBIs, while newly acquired Alex Bregman is 11-for-33 with three long balls and 10 RBIs.

Right-hander Richard Fitts is scheduled to start for Boston, coming in with an 0.84 ERA and 1.03 WHIP in 10.2 innings pitched, striking out 13. Right-hander Casey Mize gets the ball for the Tigers having worked 11.1 scoreless innings with 14 strikeouts. Detroit erased a 5-0 deficit on Tuesday, beating the Minnesota Twins 6-5 with three runs in the ninth. Yoshida hit his first homer of the spring as a DH and Rob Refsnyder’s sacrifice fly in the eighth salvaged a 4-4 tie for the Red Sox against the New York Yankees on Tuesday.
