Division leading Tigers continue their season-longest 10-game road trip as series begins against the Rockies

Owners of the league’s best run scoring differential, the American League Central Division leading Detroit Tigers swing into Coors Field on Tuesday night as they open a three-game series against the slumping Colorado Rockies. Second-year right-hander Jackson Jobe (2-0, 3.38 ERA) takes the mound for the Tigers off his worst start of the season where he allowed three earned runs on four hits over four innings of work in a win against Houston on Wednesday as the faces a Rockies lineup that ranks last in MLB scoring 106 runs in their first 34 games. The Rockies have lost three in a row since their first winning streak of the season and have dropped 19 of their last 22 games.

Tigers left fielder Kerry Carpenter leads the team with his .295 batting average after a four-for-five outing against the Angels on Sunday where he drove in five runs in Detroit’s 13-1 blowout win. In his fourth season in the majors, Carpenter is on pace to shatter his career highs in hits, home runs and RBIs and is two homers shy of hit third consecutive season with 10 or more home runs. A 19th round pick by Detroit in 2019 before making his big-league debut in August of 2022.

The Rockies will start rookie right-hander Chase Dollander (2-3, 6.48 ERA) who exited Wednesday’s win over Atlanta with a broken nail on his pitching hand after his best outing of the season holding the Braves to just two hits over 5.2 innings of work.

Detroit has won four of the last five games in this series dating back to July of 2023 and have won three of the last four games played in Denver.
