After shutout victory, the Royals look to win their weekend series against the division leading Tigers. Watch for free on Fubo.

Having out dueled reigning Cy Young Award winner Tarik Skubal in a 1-0 home win yesterday, the Kansas City Royals return to Kauffman Stadium on Sunday afternoon as their ace Kris Bubic (5-2, 1.45 ERA) takes the mound in a getaway day matinee against the American League Central Division leading Detroit Tigers. The Royals trail Detroit by seven games in the division as they look for their first series win since mid-May and their first series win over the Tigers since taking three of four games in Detroit last August. The Tigers will counter with second-year right-hander Keider Montero (2-1, 4.54 ERA) who has allowed three earned runs or less in five of his last six outings.

Despite being held without a hit in Saturday’s loss, Tigers catcher Dillon Dingler leads Detroit hitting .299 this season and ended May with a blistering .329 batting average including six multi-hit games. Dingler, in his first full season with the Tigers, has already posted career highs in hits, doubles, home runs, and RBIs after being a September call up in 2024 helping Detroit in their late season push as they made their first playoff appearance in a decade. Dingler, a second-round selection by Detroit in 2017, was a star at Ohio State where he earned Big Ten Conference All-Freshman team honors and was twice named a team captain.

Royals third baseman Maikel Garcia ranks 10th in Major League Baseball hitting a team-high .316 after his career-high 14-game hitting streak ended on Saturday. The 25-year-old Venezuelan has stolen 10 or more bases in each of the last three seasons and is on pace to shatter his career highs in hits, doubles, home runs and RBIs this season.

The series is split 4-4 in the last eight games played in Kansas City with each of the last five games being decided by two runs or less.
