Off a blowout win in the series opener, the red-hot Tigers aim for a third straight win as series continues on the southside against the White Sox

Winners of seven of their last eight games, the division-leading Detroit Tigers continue their seven-game road trip on Tuesday night when they take on the Chicago White Sox at Rate Field in the second game of a four-game mid-week series. The Tigers trounced Chicago on Monday, winning 13-,1 marking the third consecutive game Detroit has held their opponents to one run or less. The White Sox have lost four games in a row and seven of their last eight games as they send rookie right-hander Shane Smith (1-3, 2.68 ERA) to the mound as he aims for his first win in his last seven starts.

Tigers right fielder Kerry Carpenter hit three home runs in Monday’s win after hitting just one homer in his previous 18 games. The 27-year-old Carpenter was a 19th-round selection by Detroit in the 2019 MLB Draft, making his Major League debut in 2022 where he belted six home runs in his first 31 games. Carpenter took over the everyday job in the following season posting career highs in hits, doubles, home runs, RBIs and stolen bases but was sidelined for two and a half months with a back injury in 2024.

Despite hitting just .238 this season, White Sox third baseman Miguel Vargas leads Chicago in total bases and home runs and has at least one hit in seven of his last nine games.

With scheduled starter Reese Olson on the Injured List with a finger issue, his spot in the Tigers’ rotation could be filled by a bullpen by committee until he returns to the lineup.

Detroit has won 19 of the last 23 games in this series including 11 wins in a row in Chicago.
