Division leading Tigers look to win mid-week series as road trip ends on Chicago’s southside against the White Sox.

Winners of eight of their last 10 games, the Detroit Tigers wrap up a seven-game road trip in Chicago on Thursday afternoon as they aim to take three out of four from the White Sox with right-hander Casey Mize (6-1, 2.82 ERA) taking the mound on getaway day. The White Sox will counter with second year righty Sean Burke (3-6, 4.20 ERA) who has lost two of his last three outings but has held opposing offenses to two earned runs or less in five of his last six starts. After squandering the lead after a four-run first inning, the Tigers extended their lead in the American League Central Division race to six games on Wednesday as Colt Keith RBI double plated the winning run in a 5-4 road victory.

Tigers left fielder Riley Greene leads the team in hits, total bases, RBIs and batting average hitting .283 this season and comes into Thursday’s series finale on a four-game hitting streak with three multi-hit games in that span. Greene, the number five overall selection in the 2019 MLB Draft, made his big league debut in 2022 and has posted career highs in hits, runs, home runs and RBIs in every subsequent season including his second 100-plus hit campaign in 2024.

The White Sox duo of second baseman Lenyn Sosa and third baseman Miguel Vargas have been bright spots for a Chicago offense that has struggled to find consistency combining for 25 doubles, 12 home runs and 43 RBIs through Chicago’s first 59 games.

Detroit has won five of the last six games in this series overall and 13 of the last 14 in Chicago dating back to September of 2023.
