The Minnesota Twins go for their third straight win on Wednesday night when they visit the Athletics.

The Minnesota Twins battle the Athletics on Wednesday night in the third game of a four-game series. The Twins got a pair of solo home runs from Will Castro on Tuesday to beat the Athletics 10-3. They broke open the game with four runs in the sixth inning and four more in the seventh. The win was their second in a row and pushed their record to 33-27 on the season. They now sit in second place in the American League Central, six games back of the first place Detroit Tigers.

The Twins will send Zebby Matthews to the mound in the third game of the series. Matthews comes into Wednesday searching for his first win, as he is 0-1 with a 6.43 ERA. He will be making just his third start of the season. In his first two starts he went just seven combined innings, but in his last start he went seven full innings against the Seattle Mariners. He gave up four runs on six hits, but didn’t factor in the decision. The Twins would win the game 12-6 in 10 innings.

The Athletics will counter with Jeffrey Springs as they try to snap an eight-game losing streak.

Springs comes into Wednesday 5-4 with a 4.72 ERA. He had one of his worst outings of the season in his last start. He went just two innings and gave up six runs on six hits against the Toronto Blue Jays.

The A’s have now lost his last three starts and six of his last eight appearances. They started off the season well, winning three of his first four starts, but it has gone downhill since.

The loss on Tuesday was the eighth in a row for the Athletics and they have now lost 19 of their last 20 games to drop to 23-39 on the season. They now sit in last place in the AL West, 11 games back of the first place Houston Astros.
