The Minnesota Twins go for the opening series win against the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday afternoon on FS1.

The Minnesota Twins and St. Louis Cardinals resume their opening series on Saturday afternoon after having Friday off. The Cardinals and Twins had very similar seasons last year. St. Louis won 83 games while Minnesota won 82 while both were left on the outside looking in for a Wild Card spot. The Twins are trying to make it back to the playoffs for the first time since 2023 while St. Louis is trying to do the same since 2022. After a surprising down season, the Cardinals are down to one superstar in Nolan Arenado with Paul Goldschmidt heading the Bronx. Minnesota will be the -125 favorites on the road tonight.

Arenado was a huge reason the Cardinals won on Thursday 5-3 on Opening Day. The third baseman hit a homer in the eighth to give the Cardinals some cushion. His homer wasn’t necessarily key to the win but fans gave him a standing ovation anyway. Arenado declined a trade offer to the Houston Astros in the offseason and elected to stay in St. Louis at least to start the season and fans showed their appreciation. Veteran Sonny Gray earned the win going five innings giving up two runs on four hits. The Twins got within one run in the sixth with a two-RBI double from second baseman Willi Castro in the sixth but they couldn’t squeeze out any more offense.

Erick Fedde will get the start for the home team this afternoon. The righty had a six-year career in Washington but did not play in the majors in 2023 after only receiving minor league offers. Instead he decided to sign in KBO League with the NC Dinos where he went 20-6 with a 2.00 ERA. That invigorated his career enough to start last season with the Chicago White Sox. At the end of July he was acquired along with Tommy Pham and went 9-9 in 2024 with a 3.30 ERA. The redemption with the Cardinals continues. Joe Ryan will give the Twins a great chance to tie this series Saturday. The Twins righty went 7-7 in his fourth season in Minnesota with a 3.60 ERA. This is the only time Minnesota and St. Louis will play all season.
