The Minnesota Twins open up their regular season on Thursday afternoon agaisnt the St. Louis Cardinals. It is the first of three straight meetings between the two teams. They will take Friday off before playing on Saturday and Sunday. The Twins will then head to Chicago to take on the White Sox before they finally play at home against the Houston Astros for three. The Twins will send Pablo Lopez out to the mound in the season opener. Lopez is in his third season with the Twins after playing his first five seadsons with the Miami Marlins. Lopez has pitched well in Minnesota as he went 11-8 iwth a 3.66 ERA in 2023 and then went 15-10 with a 4.08 ERA last season. Two seasons ago he struck out 234 batters and last year he fanned 198.

The Cardinals will look to send him away with a loss in the first game of the year as they counter with Sonny Gray.

Grey is in his second season with the Cardinals after playing two years with the Twins. The Cardinals are his fifth team as he has also played with the Oakland Athletics, New York Yankees and Cincinnati Reds.

Gray threw well in his first season with the Cardinals as he went 13-9 with a 3.84 ERA and 203 strikeouts.

The Cardinals are looking for a good outing from Gray on Thursday as they begnin a season in which they will try and get back to the playoffs after just missing on a wild card spot last year.
