Coming off injury-riddled seasons, the Minnesota Twins and Tampa Bay Rays look for bounce backs in 2025.

The Minnesota Twins (1-1) and the Tampa Bay Rays (1-2) had similar 2024 seasons — playoff teams from 2023 that dipped to near the .500 mark amid a wave of injuries. Both teams mostly stood pat over the winter and will count on a return to health to jump back into the playoff mix. The teams meet in a Grapefruit League contest on Monday afternoon at Charlotte Sports Park in Port Charlotte, Florida. The Twins lost Carlos Correa, Byron Buxton and Royce Lewis for considerable periods last season while Tampa Bay struggled through a bevy of injuries to its rotation as well as losing Isaac Paredes, Brandon Lowe and Randy Arozarena for long stretches.

Minnesota made three small moves designed to fill holes, bringing back left-handed reliever Danny Coulombe as a free agent, adding Gold Glove outfielder Harrison Bader and inking former All-Star first baseman/designated hitter Ty France to a non-guaranteed one-year deal.

The Rays looked to upgrade their catching situation after their backstops combined for a .194/.272/291 slash line, a .563 OPS and minus-1.6 WAR. Ben Rortveldt is back and the club added Danny Jansen, who split last season between the Toronto Blue Jays and Boston Red Sox. Tres Barrera, who last appeared in the majors with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2023, was brought in on a minor-league deal with a spring training invitation. Infielder Ha-Seong Kim signed as a free-agent and is targeting a May debut as he recovers from a shoulder injury.

Right-hander Chris Paddack will make his first start of the spring for the Twins on Monday after posting a 4.99 ERA and 1.392 WHIP in 17 starts and 88.1 innings last season. Zach Littell led Tampa Bay with 2.8 WAR last season with a 3.63 ERA and 1.247 WHIP in 29 starts and 156.1 innings. Minnesota lost 5-1 to the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday while the Rays beat the Atlanta Braves 4-2.
