The Chicago White Sox try to avoid losing eight in a row and the series sweep against the Cleveland Guardians on Thursday.

The Cleveland Guardians go for the opening series sweep against the Chicago White Sox in this getaway game on Thursday. Playing the White Sox and going home is exactly the remedy the Guardians needed avoiding a three-game losing streak winning the opener of this series. Now they have a chance to get back to .500 with a win today. Cleveland started the first nine games of the season out on the road where it went 3-6. After a decent start to the season, Chicago is back to its losing ways of 2024 dropping seven games in a row. The Guardians will be overwhelming favorites to sweep this afternoon with a -235 line.

After a 1-0 shutout in the opener, Cleveland followed that up on Wednesday with a 3-2 victory. Things started off well for the White Sox scoring the first run of the game in the first inning but they were not able to score again until the ninth. Carlos Santana homered in the third inning which proved to be the winning run. Chicago third baseman Miguel Vargas kept the rally alive in the ninth with a RBI single in the ninth with the bases loaded and two outs. The White Sox had a great chance to at least tie the Guardians with Mike Tauchman rounding third looking like he was going to score. Tauchman was thrown out though after an apparent injury for the final out of the game for a tough break for Chicago. Tauchman had just returned to the lineup from a right hamstring strain.

The White Sox will try to avoid an eight-game losing streak and the sweep today by starting Jonathan Cannon. The righty is going for his first win of the season after losing his last matchup against the Detroit Tigers after pitching 3.2 innings giving up three runs and a homer. Cleveland will counter with Gavin Williams who has no record so far. The righty had no decisions in his first two starts with him going three innings and giving up two earned runs against the Los Angeles Angels.
