Shane Smith and the White Sox will take the mound opening a series against Ben Lively and the Guardians on Tuesday afternoon.

On Tuesday afternoon, the Cleveland Guardians will open up a series at home, facing the Chicago White Sox in the first game of a three-game series at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio. This will be the first of four series this season between these two teams. The White Sox concluded a three-game series on Sunday against the Detroit Tigers, losing all three games and falling to a 2-7 record on the season. In their first two series of the year, they at least won one game each, beating the Los Angeles Angels and the Minnesota Twins in the first game of each of those series.

The hometown Guardians are not much better, heading into this series with a 3-6 record through three series this season. They are fresh off of losing a series two games to one against the Angels. They have followed that same path of one game out of three against the San Diego Padres and the Kansas City Royals since the start of the season.

Chicago will opt to put relief pitcher Shane Smith on the mound to start the game and the series. The right-hander is 0-0 this season with a 3.18 ERA and a 1.06 WHIP. While listed as a reliever, he started one other game already this season for Chicago in an 8-3 loss to Minnesota. He threw 5.2 innings, allowing two earned runs on two hits with three strikeouts.

Ben Lively will get the home start on the mound in the top of the first inning today. The right-hander is 0-1 this season with a 6.75 ERA and a 1.39 WHIP. He has started two previous games this season, but in his last start, he threw 4.1 innings against the Padres and lost 5-2, allowing four runs on seven hits with four strikeouts.
