Pete Alonso snapped a 16-game homerless drought with a two-run shot in the bottom of the first as New York took the rubber game of their three-game series with the Los Angeles Dodgers with a 3-1 win on Sunday night. Kodei Senga allowed only Shohei Ohtani’s leadoff home run to improve to 5-3 with 5.1 innings of work before the bullpen shut out the Dodgers on one hit over the final 3.2 frames. Alonso is slashing .291/.391/.536 with 10 home runs and 40 RBI, while Francisco Lindor also has 10 homers.

Chicago couldn’t hold a 3-2 lead in the top of the ninth as the visiting Texas Rangers rallied to salvage the series finale on Sunday with a 5-4 victory. Miguel Vargas and Austin Slater hit solo home runs in the loss as Jordan Leasure blew his third save of the season by surrendering three runs in the ninth. Vargas slashes .239/.316/.418 and leads the club with seven homers and 23 RBI, while Luis Robert Jr. stole his MLB-leading 20th base on Sunday.

Right-hander Clay Holmes (5-3) is set to start the series opener for the Mets. He comes in with a 3.13 ERA and 1.24 WHIP in 10 starts and 54.2 innings. The White Sox go with veteran Adrian Houser (1-0), signed as a free agent on Tuesday. He won his first start that day, allowing two hits over six shutout innings against the Seattle Mariners.
