New York has won four of five since dropping three straight while the White Sox have lost back-to-back games and eight of their last 11 overall to fall deeper into the American League Central basement. The Mets are now within a game-and-a-half of the Philadelphia Phillies in the National League East.

Francisco Lindor’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth brought home Tyrone Taylor with the winning run as New York claimed a 2-1 victory on Monday after trailing 1-0 entering the bottom of the eighth. Juan Soto tied the game with a sac fly in the eighth and four relievers worked 3.1 innings of shutout baseball to close out the game. Pete Alonso’s slash line is .291/.392/.533 with 10 home runs and 40 RBI while Lindor also has 10 homers and Luisangel Acuña leads the club with 11 stolen bases.

Chicago wasted a standout start from Adrian Houser, who allowed three hits in six shutout innings. Its only run came in the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly from Andrew Benintendi as the White Sox were a woeful 0-for-11 with runners in scoring position and stranded 10 on base. Miguel Vargas slashes .239/.314/.420 with team highs of seven home runs and 23 RBI, while Luis Robert Jr. stole his major-league leading 21st base in Monday’s loss.

Right-hander Tylor Megill (3-4) takes the ball for the Mets on Tuesday night. He has a 3.56 ERA and 1.35 WHIP in 10 starts and 48 innings with 66 strikeouts. Chicago goes with right-hander Jonathan Cannon (2-5), who in eight starts and 10 appearances overall has a 3.76 ERA and 1.31 WHIP in 55 innings.
