The Detroit Tigers will go for the home-opening series win against the Chicago White Sox on Saturday.

The Detroit Tigers go for the series win against their AL Central rivals in the first game of the MLB slate on Saturday when they host the Chicago White Sox for Game 2. The opening of this series was the home opener for the Tigers who won 7-4 on Friday. Detroit is trying to get back to .500 with another win this afternoon. The White Sox are trying to end a three-game losing streak today after they had a good start to the season. Oddsmakers are betting that this losing streak continues as the Tigers are favored -225 to win the series today. If Detroit does so, it will have won four of its last five games after a sweep at the hands of the defending champs to open the season.

The Tigers won on Friday on the shoulders of Kerry Carpenter who hit two solo shots with the first run of the game in the first and another in the fourth. Detroit won easily getting up 7-1 by the sixth. Chicago showed some life scoring three runs in the ninth inning but it was too little, too late to mount a comeback. Jack Flaherty had a solid start to earn his first win of the season and for his new team after coming over from Los Angeles. Flaherty got the no-decision in his first start of the season against his former team but picked up the win on Friday going 5.2 innings only giving up three hits and one run while striking out seven. The win was Detroit’s 14th home-opening win in 17 years.

Reese Olson will go for the series win on Saturday. The righty is coming off a loss last Saturday against the Dodgers where he went 4.2 innings giving up four hits and four runs. The White Sox will try to tie this series by countering with righty Davis Martin. He pitched well in his season debut going six innings while only giving up four hits and no runs. But Chicago ultimately lost to the Los Angeles Angels 3-2 to narrowly miss the series win.
