The Chicago White Sox try to avoid the sweep at the hands of the Detroit Tigers on Sunday.

The Detroit Tigers go for the series sweep on Sunday when they host the Chicago White Sox in the finale this afternoon. The Tigers have put up seven runs in the first two games to win this series. Detroit has now won four of its last five after getting swept in the first series of the season. With a 7-2 win on Saturday, the Tigers are back to .500. This opening home series is going exactly as planned for Detroit. The White Sox are trying to piece it together and end a four-game losing streak in the finale. The odds are against them with Detroit holding the -215 line.

Things looked good to start for the White Sox in Game 2 scoring the first run of the game in the top of the first but Detroit quickly bounced back with two of its own in the bottom of the inning. Detroit scored the next seven runs through the third inning and Chicago didn’t score again until the fifth. Kerry Carpenter is on a roll in this series as he has hit three homers in the last two games against the White Sox. Spencer Torkelson also had a home run in this game and added a double. Reese Olson settled down and got the win for Detroit going six innings giving up seven hits but only two runs.

The Tigers will go for the sweep by starting Jackson Jobe on Sunday. Jobe pitched last Monday against the Seattle Mariners in his season debut where the Tigers eventually won 9-6. Jobe went four innings giving up three hits and three runs with two homers. Chicago will counter with Martin Perez. The lefty pitched phenomenally on Monday in his season and White Sox debut going six hitless innings while striking out nine against the Minnesota Twins in a game Chicago dominated 9-0. Even if Perez pitches half as well, the White Sox have a good chance at salvaging a game in this series.
