The New York Yankees and St. Louis Cardinals hit the field on Sunday afternoon in a spring training battle. The Yankees will be playing their second straight game on the road after playing the Houston Astros on Saturday. The Yankees started off a little slow this spring as they lost three of their first four games, but they came into the weekend having won six of their last nine and only losing twice. The big news coming out of Yankees camp, though, is ace Gerrit Cole is going to have tests on his right elbow. Cole has pitched six innings in two starts this spring. Cole also was shut down last spring due to elbow issues and didn’t make his season debut until June 19. The Yankees are hoping for better news, but won’t know until later. The rest of the Yankees are gearing up for a season that will have them looking to repeat as AL Champions.

This will be the second meeting between the two teams this spring as the Yankees shutout the Cardinals 7-0 back on Feb. 26.

The Cardinals appear to be in rebuilding mode this season as they have traded away a lot of their top players.

The spring has reflected that as they came into the weekend just 6-8 and losers of two of their last three games.

The Cardinals will open the regular season on March 27 with a three-game home series agains the Minnesota Twins. They stay at home for a three-game series with the Los Angeles Angels before hitting the road for six straight against the Boston Red Sox and Pittsburgh Pirates.
