The Mets have a lot to gain with a win today also, sitting only a half-game back of the first-place Philadelphia Phillies in the NL East. The Yankees are the -150 favorites to tie up this series Saturday.

The opener of this series was filled with fireworks, as both teams combined for seven homers. None was bigger than Jeff McNeil’s two-run shot to give the Mets the lead in the seventh inning. Brett Baty got the Mets within one with a solo shot of his own in the sixth. Left fielder Jasson Dominguez hit two homers to collect three RBIs on the day. His second shot in the fifth gave the Yankees a two-run lead. Aaron Jude also hit a blast for his 32nd home run of the season.

It is going to be a little tougher to come by the home run, at least for the Mets, since the Yankees are starting Carlos Rodon. The lefty is 9-5 this season with a 2.95 ERA. The Mets will counter with Frankie Montas who is 0-1 with a 6.00 ERA in two starts this season.
