The Mets will look to bounce back from a close 3-1 loss to the Cardinals on Thursday afternoon. Sean Manaea took the loss on the mound to move to 0-2 in spring training play after pitching for 2.2 innings and giving up all three earned runs while striking out four batters. The Mets’ only run came from the bat of Jorge Polanco in the top of the first with a solo shot to right field, his second of the season. The Cardinals held the Mets to just five hits, something the team will need to improve on to compete with a hot Nationals team.

The Nationals had a delayed start to their game against the Astros on Thursday night, but they were able to hold on for a 3-2 victory after falling behind 2-0. Andrés Chaparro opened the scoring for Washington with a solo shot to left field in the top of the fifth. Trey Lipscomb added another run with an RBI single in the top of the ninth to plate Riley Adams, tying the game at 2-2. Lipscomb was able to steal second and Brady House scored the winning run on a Washington throwing error. The win went to PJ Poulin on the mound with 0.2 innings of work in which he gave up zero hits and struck out one batter.

The Nationals and Mets have already met twice during Grapefruit League play and Washington won both games with a 3-2 win in the first and a 7-4 win in the second. They will meet two more times before spring training comes to a close.
