The Pittsburgh Pirates opened their season with an extra-innings win and look to make it 2 in a row over the Florida Marlins on Friday night.
The Pittsburgh Pirates (1-0) won their second consecutive season opener on Thursday and take on the Miami Marlins (0-1) on Friday night in the second game of their four-game set at loanDepot Park in Miami. The Marlins’ streak of opening-day losses stretched to four with Thursday’s decision. Pittsburgh added some veterans on modest deals over the winter, signing left-handers Aroldis Chapman and MartÃn Pérez, outfielder Michael A. Taylor, first baseman Rowdy Tellez and catcher Yasmani Grandal while trading for lefty Marco Gonzales. Miami was a playoff team last season but its lone major-league signing was shortstop Tim Anderson on a one-year, $5 million deal.
