The Nationals picked up the first game of the series in a close 3-2 victory and the second game resulted in a 3-1 win yesterday.
In yesterday’s game, the Nationals got on the board early with an RBI from Nelson Cruz in the bottom of the first. Cruz scored Juan Soto, but the team wouldn’t see another run until eighth.
The score remained 1-0 until the sixth when the Pirates tied things up. Diego Castillo’s solo home run was the only scoring that would happen for Pittsburgh in the game.
In the bottom of the eighth, Yadiel Hernandez hit a two-run double to regain the lead for the Nationals. Diego Castillo was very close to catching the ball to send Hernandez back to the dugout, but he came up just short.
Pittsburgh has now lost five in a row and will be looking to break that streak with a win over the Nationals in the final game of their series today before heading home for a series with the Brewers.
