The Red Sox took the opener on Thursday 6-4 and will be looking to clinch at least a series split with a win on Friday night. The Red Sox got their bats going in the third when they scored two runs and they would add single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. The Mariners would close to within a run in the bottom of the seventh, but the Red Sox would add another in the top of the eighth to clinch the game. Tyler O’Neil hit a home run in the eighth to become the first player ever to hit a round-tripper in five straight opening days.
