The Cubs need a win today as much for their record as they do their pride after losing to the Padres 19-5 in last night’s game.
The Padres (40-24) will look to complete the sweep over the Cubs (23-39) at Wrigley Field this afternoon. The Padres put up a whopping 19 runs in last night’s 19-5 win. The series will conclude today, but the Padres have already clinched the series win.

To start the game strong, Manny Machado recorded his 1500th hit to bring home the first run of the game. Jorge Alfaro brought home the second run for the Padres.
The Cubs answered with two runs off a Christopher Morel two-run single and took the lead with two more runs. Unfortunately for the Cubs, the lead didn’t last long and the Padres put up nine runs between the fourth and fifth innings to regain the lead.
The Cubs were able to add one more run in the sixth, but the Padres were not done scoring and answered with five runs in the seventh and an additional three runs in the ninth.
The Padres will use Joe Musgrove on the mound today. Musgrove is 7-0 this season with an ERA of 1.50. The Cubs will rely on Matt Swarmer, who has a record of 1-1 on the season and an ERA of 4.24.
With the Cubs being outscored 35-11 in just three games against the Padres, today’s goal should be on the pitchers to step up their game and deny the Padres as much as possible.
