The Royals will host the Giants on Wednesday afternoon as Cactus League play continues in Arizona.

Spring training has reached the halfway points and on Wednesday afternoon, the Kansas City Royals and the San Francisco Giants will meet at Surprise Stadium for a Cactus League matchup. Both clubs are using these preseason contests to iron out rotations and give players important at-bats before the Grapefruit and Cactus Leagues wrap up and the regular season begins in March. Fans can look for both teams to work through lineups and pitching depth on Wednesday, with players getting crucial work in at the plate and on the mound. As managers work through jockeying roster spots between up-and-coming players and veterans, the competition will heat up both on the field and in the dugout under the Arizona sun.

The Royals will be looking for a win after dropping a close 4-3 game to the Mariners on Tuesday afternoon. Seattle jumped out to a 3-0 lead before the Royals got on the board with a three-run homer from the bat of Kameron Misner in the top of the sixth. Misner went 2-for-3 along with Daniel Vasquez, but Kansas City struggled to bring them home resulting in the loss. Héctor Neris was credited with the loss on the mound after giving up one earned run in one inning. While half of the Royals’ squad takes on the Giants, the other half will be on the road playing the Cubs.

The Giants come into Wednesday’s game following a narrow 5-4 victory over the Guardians on Tuesday. Jared Oliva opened the scoring in the top of the third after stealing his seventh base in spring training play which led to a throwing error and allowed him to come home. Another throwing error in the top of the fourth brought the second run home before Tyler Fitzgerald hit a two-run homer to left field to make it a 4-1 game. A walked run in the top of the ninth made it a 5-1 game. While Cleveland came close to tying the game, Ricardo Estrada held on to earn the save.

Wednesday’s game will be the first between the Giants and Royals, but they will meet twice more before the end of spring training.
