Yesterday the Giants jumped out to a 4-0 lead over Detroit after five innings off a pair of two-run singles, the first from veteran Evan Longoria and the last by Mike Yastrzemski to give the hosts a comfortable cushion heading into the later innings. The Tigers scratched out runs in the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings to cut the lead to 4-3 until closer Camilo Doval blanked the Tigers for the final four outs recording his 12th save of the season.
Today, the Tigers will start Rony Garcia (2-2, 4.57 ERA) as he goes for his third win in as many starts. Garcia has been thrust into the rotation due to the multitude of injuries plaguing the Tigers staff and has improved with every start giving up just one earned run in 5.1 innings on Friday in a 5-1 win at Arizona.
The Giants will counter with southpaw Alex Wood (5-6, 5.05 ERA), who was roughed up for six earned runs in only one inning of work last Thursday against the Atlanta Braves.
