This is the first trip to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval since 2020, as NASCAR has run the road course format of the track for the last three seasons. The last time the Cup Series ran the Brickyard 400, Kevin Harvick drove to victory lane, leading 68 laps. The top three finishers in that race—Harvick, Matt Kenseth and Aric Almirola—no longer race full time in the Cup Series and won’t be in this field. Neither will fifth-place finisher Cole Custer, who runs in the Xfinity Series now.
