The NASCAR Cup Series is at Sonoma Raceway this weekend for the Toyota / Save Mart 350, with qualifying set for Saturday evening. Last season, Martin Truex Jr. led 51 of the 110 laps on his way to the victory in that race, while Kyle Busch led 17 laps and finished second. Joey Logano, Chris Buescher and Chase Elliott rounded out the top five. The win for Truex was his fourth at this track in his Cup Series career. Other recent winners here include Daniel Suarez in 2022 and Kyle Larson in 2021. Kyle Busch is the only other former Sonoma winner in the field.

Last weekend, Austin Cindric won at World Wide Technology Raceway, clinching a playoff spot for the No. 2 car. Cindric sits outside the top 16 in points, so his win moved the cut line up a spot for drivers hoping to point their way into the postseason. Currently, a driver will need to be 14th in points or better to make the playoffs with Cindric and Suarez outside that top 16 but having wins in 2024.
Who will get the pole for Sunday’s race? The recent repave at the track means it should be very fast this weekend, which could limit passing opportunities. That makes qualifying incredibly important.
