After qualifying earlier in the day, the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series field battles The Paperclip at Martinsville Speedway on Friday night.
Martinsville Speedway offers unique challenges and on Friday night, the drivers of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series will contend with the short, flat track in the Long John Silver’s 200. Qualifying was held earlier in the day on the 0.526-mile elongated oval that features no banking on the straights and just 12 degrees of angling in the turns. Corey Heim won last spring’s race at Martinsville — also known as both The Paperclip and the Half Mile of Mayhem — and comes off a win two weeks ago at Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas. NASCAR’s various circuits have raced at the track since 1948, with the trucks first arriving in 1995.

Heim’s rain-shortened victory last year in Martinsville ended under caution, with the race cut to 124 laps. It was the first of Heim’s three wins on the circuit in 2023 and he comes off his first victory of 2024 in which he led 31 of the 46 tracks on the road course at COTA.
The race, scheduled for 200 laps, covers 105.2 miles. Stages 1 and 2 are 50 laps apiece and the final stage covers the final 100. Heim arrives in Martinsville with a 10-point lead over Ty Majeski in the driver standings, with Tyler Ankrum (11 points back) in third place. Taylor Gray (28 points behind) and Rajah Caruth (trailing by 29 points) round out the top five.
Heim, Caruth, Nick Sanchez and Christian Eckes have clinched provisional playoff spots with wins this season. Heim looks to become the sixth multiple-time truck winner in Martinsville. Dennis Setzer and Kevin Harvick won three times apiece while Mike Skinner, Johnny Sauter and Kyle Busch have taken the checkered flag twice each.
