Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors start the first round of the NBA Playoffs as underdogs on the road against the Houston Rockets.
The Western Conference playoffs are set to be a gauntlet for every team looking to make the NBA Finals this season. That is emphasized by Golden State, the four-time NBA Champions, entering the playoffs as the seven seed to take on the Houston Rockets. This season the Warriors and Rockets have already played four playoff caliber games against each other making this matchup seemingly inevitable. Golden State won three of the five regular season games with all five games decided by 10 points or less. In the most recent game Houston pushed all the right buttons defeating Golden State 106-96 limiting two-time MVP Stephen Curry to just three points on 1-10 shooting from the field.

Houston finished the season allowing 109.8 points per game to opponents, sixth best in the NBA. In the five games against Golden State this season the defense was even better allowing just 103.4 points per game.
Amen Thompson has been the catalyst of the Houston defense and surge to the second seed in the playoffs. Since entering the starting lineup full-time Thompson is averaging 15.9 points, 9.1 rebounds, 5.2 assists, 1.7 steals and 1.5 blocks per game.
For Golden State the season turned around at the trade deadline. The team was 25-26 before making a blockbuster trade to acquire Jimmy Butler. Since the Butler trade he has elevated Golden State going 24-8 while averaging 17.9 points on 7.7 free-throw attempts per game.
