The Wizards won each of the first two encounters between these teams, meaning Washington’s record against Atlanta actually accounts for roughly a quarter of the franchise’s nine total wins so far this campaign. The Hawks attained some revenge in the rivalry after edging the last meeting between the sides in November – when Dyson Daniels led the game with 25 points – with Atlanta leading 169-154 in their all-time head-to-head.

Despite the fact Washington has more wins in this particular rivalry so far this season, it hasn’t extended to its season as a whole given it currently boasts the worst record in the NBA.

No team has banked fewer than the Wizards’ nine victories up to this point of the campaign, and it’s startling to think a third of that tally has been amassed in February alone.

Trae Young has scored 34 points apiece in each of Atlanta’s last two road games, illustrating his value at a time when the Hawks are in dire need amid some poor form.

In the opposite vein to Washington, the Hawks have seen their form take a tumble in recent weeks, having brought an end to their January schedule with seven straight losses.

It was even worse for the Wizards, who lost all but one of their 17 fixtures last month – a win over Chicago on New Year’s Day – but there’s fresh hope of things improving lately.

Kyle Kuzma, Jordan Poole, Jonas Valančiūnas and Bilal Coulibaly have been the sparks behind that recent revival, and they’ll look to keep the turnaround turning at the Capital One Arena.
