The Cleveland Cavaliers stay in New York on Friday night to take on the Brooklyn Nets. Watch the game live on Fubo.

The Cleveland Cavaliers and Brooklyn Nets are both searching for their first wins of the new season in their second games of the year. The difference is the size of expectations between these clubs. The Cavaliers were the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference last season, but their season ended much sooner than anticipated in a lopsided semi finals round against the eventual Eastern Conference representative in the Indiana Pacers. The Cavs have even bigger aspirations than they did last year, and a big addition in the offseason to help reach those goals is Lonzo Ball from their division rival Chicago Bulls. The Nets meanwhile finished last season 30 games under .500 and in 13th in the East. They are still in rebuild mode, but one of the biggest moves they made in the offseason was trading with the Denver Nuggets for Michael Porter Jr. in a swap for Cameron Johnson. There were a lot of stars in Denver, so now Porter Jr. should be unleashed to his full shooting potential in Brooklyn. The Cavaliers will still be the huge favorites on the road tonight to earn their first win of the season.

In what might have been expected to be last season’s Eastern Conference Final matchup, the Cavaliers lost to the New York Knicks 119-111 at MSG in the season opener. It was Donovan Mitchell who scored the most points in the game with 31. But it was OG Anunoby and company who got the last laugh. Cleveland had a higher field goal and three-point percentage, but Anunoby scored 24 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to outduel the Cavs. Jalen Brunson added 23 points for the first win for Mike Brown as the Knicks new head coach. Cleveland got down by 17 points in the first half. Mitchell led the comeback, but the Cavs could never quite recover. Cleveland won 16 in a row to start last season, but expect the Cavaliers to get off to a much quicker start tonight.

The Nets will be happy to be heading home tonight, after a 136-117 loss at the hands of the Charlotte Hornets in their season opener. Brandon Miller hadn’t played for the often injured Hornets since Jan. 15, but he had a triumphant return leading the game with 25 points. Both teams shot well from the field, but Charlotte was prolific hitting at 53.3 percent. Nic Claxton led the charge for Brooklyn, with a team-high 17 points and Cam Thomas added 15. Porter Jr. had 12 points on 5 of 15 shooting and 2 for 7 from the three-point line. They’re going to need a lot more to contribute tonight in a much tougher opponent tonight.
