Rookie Matas Buzelis makes his Chicago Bulls debut against the Cleveland Cavaliers in NBA preseason action today.
This offseason the Cleveland Cavaliers made a change in leadership bringing in new head coach Kenny Atkinson to try and get the team over the hump. Last season Cleveland made the second round of the playoffs for just the third time in franchise history without LeBron James in uniform. Donovan Mitchell, Darius Garland, Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley give Cleveland a core to contend with this season. They start the 2024-2025 preseason against the Chicago Bulls, who start a new chapter in their franchise with Josh Giddey and rookie Matas Buzelis joining rising star Coby White, Ayo Dosunmu, Patrick Williams along with veterans Zach LaVine and Nikola Vucevic.

Last season White stormed onto the scene as a scoring guard and three-point shooter. He finished the season averaging a career-best 19.1 points, 5.1 assists and 4.5 rebounds per game. White finished second in Most Improved Player while setting a franchise record with 209 three-pointers.
Heading into this season White will have more playmaking help with Lonzo Ball returning from injury and the addition of Giddey to run the offense. For his career Giddey has averaged 13.9 points, 7.3 rebounds and 5.7 assists per game, while Ball, when healthy, was averaging 13.0 ponts, 5.4 rebounds and 5.1 assists per game in 35 games before injuries derailed the last two seasons.
The trio of White, Giddey and Ball give Chicago a future and an identity going forward to contend in the Eastern Conference. Giddey is expected to play today while Ball is still day-to-day heading into Chicago’s first preseason game today.
