Kyrie Irving leads the Dallas Mavericks against former teammate James Harden and the Los Angeles Clippers.

The Klay Thompson era with the Dallas Mavericks started off with the 14 year veteran splashing home three three-pointers. In his first game in a Dallas uniform Thompson went 3-5 from three with 10 points and three assists in 18 minutes. Dallas was without MVP candidate Luka Doncic again as he rests for the regular season, but Thompson played his first minutes with another All-Star point guard. Thompson and Kyrie Irving combined to score 22 points and shoot 9-20 from the field in less than 20 minutes of action. They will give Doncic two elite shooting options for his once in a generation playmaking ability. Dallas has just two preseason games left on the schedule starting here with the Los Angeles Clippers to prepare for another potential run to the NBA Finals.

Since the 2014-2015 season Thompson has lived in the finals. He has played in six NBA Finals (4-2) during that stretch. He has 610 points in the NBA Finals (25th most all-time) and has scored more points in the playoffs than all but four active players, LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry and James Harden.

While Thompson looks to be a part of another run to the NBA Finals with Doncic and Irving, Los Angeles is hoping to get out of the first round of the playoffs for just the second time since signing Kawhi Leonard five seasons ago.

Harden will have to shoulder a huge load this season with Leonard working through injuries and Paul George signing with the Philadelphia 76ers in the offseason. So far in three preseason games he is averaging 13.7 points, 5.0 assists and 3.0 rebounds per game in 17.4 minutes of play. Only three other Los Angeles players, Jordan Miller (11.3), Bones Hyland (10.5) and Norman Powell (10.5), are averaging double-figures in the preseason.
