Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the Oklahoma City Thunder take on the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday after the first game ended in controversy.

The first time these teams played the game was mired in controversy, as the Oklahoma City Thunder (63-12) came away with a win on the road over the Detroit Pistons (42-33). In that game All-Star Cade Cunningham was ejected from the game late in the third quarter under at best controversial circumstances after an interaction with official Brian Forte. Heading into Wednesday’s game both teams are playing outstanding, with Detroit winning five of the last seven since that loss and Oklahoma City is winners of 10 straight. Cunningham (calf) has missed the last four games and could be out for this one as well. In his absence Marcus Sasser has come off the bench to lead Detroit to a 3-1 record.

Sasser went for 20 points and then 27 points in the first two games without Cunningham, shooting 8-of-11 from three-point range. Detroit will be even more short handed due to suspensions that will keep Sasser and rookie Ron Holland out of this game. Isaiah Stewart will miss this game and the next.

For Oklahoma City this game has franchise history on the line. With a win Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and this group of young, talented players will tie the 1995-96 Seattle Sonics franchise win record. That team went to the NBA Finals and fell short to Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls that season.

Oklahoma City has seven games remaining in the regular season. If the Thunder run the table they could enter the playoffs as not only the No. 1 overall seed in the Western Conference and the NBA, but also the third team in NBA history to win 70 games in a season.
