A new era is expected to begin for the Los Angeles Lakers (31-19) on Monday. Just over a week after one of the biggest trades in NBA history, Luka Doncic is expected to make his Lakers debut at home at Crypto.com arena against the Utah Jazz (12-39). The Lakers acquired Doncic along with Maxi Kleber and Markieff Morris from the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for Anthony Davis, Max Christie, and a 2029 first round pick. Monday’s Lakers opponent was also involved in that deal, as the Jazz facilitated as a third team landing Jalen Hood-Schifino and two second-round picks in 2025.

The Lakers have been getting by just fine as of late even without Doncic. They’ve won six games in a row, and nine of their last 10. In their last game on Saturday they beat the Indiana Pacers 124-117, as Austin Reaves dropped 45 points in the absence of LeBron James, who missed the game due to an ankle injury.

The Lakers have already beat the Jazz twice this season with a 124-118 win in Los Angeles on Nov. 19 and then a narrow 105-104 win in Utah on Dec. 1.

For the Jazz this is the third game in a three-game Southwest swing. They lost to the Phoenix Suns in overtime on Friday then on the second night of a back-to-back lost to the Los Angeles Clippers on Saturday.
