The San Antonio Spurs tip off against the Utah Jazz on Saturday afternoon looking to climb back to .500 on the season.

The San Antonio Spurs avoided a three-game losing streak and now they look to win back-to-back games when they host the Utah Jazz on Saturday afternoon. After a 27-point loss to Houston, San Antonio cruised to a victory of its own on Thursday beating the Portland Trail Blazers 118-105. This game was the fourth in a row without Gregg Popovich and the return of the legendary Spurs coach is unknown after experiencing a medical episode before last Saturday’s game against Minnesota. Keldon Johnson and Malaki Branham stepped up for their coach in this game with both scoring 17 points apiece. The game was close at half with the Spurs only up a point but it was never really close the rest of the way. The Spurs will get good news for this game as their second-leading scorer, with 19.5 points last season, will make his season debut against Utah. Victor Wembanyama will receive more scoring help with the return of Vassell who missed the first nine games of the season recovering from surgery on his right foot in the offseason.

Utah got its first win of the season on Monday after losing its first six games of the season but wound up right back in the loss column dropping to the Milwaukee Bucks on Thursday. The Jazz lost big 123-100 to drop to 1-7 on the season. Utah was no match for Damian Lillard and Giannis Antetokounmpo who combined for 65 points to end a six-game losing streak for Milwaukee. Lillard scored 34 points which led the game and Antetokounmpo added 16 rebounds to the dominating victory in comparison with Utah’s leading scorer Jordan Clarkson who finished with 18. This game should be closer against San Antonio but Utah is the clear underdog on the road.
