The streaking Sacramento Kings open a 4-game road trip on Friday, taking on the defending champion Boston Celtics

The Sacramento Kings (18-19) are 5-1 since interim coach Doug Christie took the reins on Dec. 27 and take a five-game winning streak into the opener of a four-game road trip on Friday night. The Kings face the defending NBA champion Boston Celtics (27-10) at TD Garden. Sacramento has climbed into a tie for 10th place in the West with its recent surge and is two-and-a-half games back of the sixth-place Los Angeles Lakers. The Celtics come off a win their last time out and are second in the Eastern Conference.

DeMar DeRozan scored nine of the Kings’ 11 points in the second overtime to lift them to a 123-118 win over the visiting Miami Heat on Monday. DeRozan finished with 30 points while Malik Monk added 23 and Domantas Sabonis went for a triple-double, posting 21 points, 18 rebounds and 11 assists. Point guard De’Aaron Fox did not dress due to a hip ailment and is questionable for Friday. Fox scores 26.7 points per game, DeRozan nets 20.8 points a night and Sabonis averages 20.6 points, 13.8 rebounds and 6.3 assists.

Boston picked up a 118-106 road win over the Denver Nuggets on Tuesday in a matchup of the last two NBA champs. Jayson Tatum went for 29 points while Kristaps Porziņģis finished with 25 points and 11 rebounds. Tatum averages 28.1 points, 9.2 rebounds and 5.5 assists while Jaylen Brown contributes 23.9 points per game.

Friday’s game is the first meeting of the season between the Kings and Boston, with the teams scheduled to meet again in Sacramento on March 24.
