The Atlanta Hawks (12-11) have climbed up the Eastern Conference standings on the strength of a five-game winning streak that has them over .500 for the first time since they were 2-0 on Oct. 25. On Friday night, the Hawks return home to host the Los Angeles Lakers (12-10), who are banged up and coming off consecutive blowout losses. The Lakers haven’t had bigs Jarred Vanderbilt (knee) or Christian Wood (knee) yet this season, while center Jaxson Hayes (ankle) is out for two to three weeks and guards Austin Reaves (pelvis) and Jalen Hood-Schifino (groin) didn’t play on Wednesday night.

Jalen Johnson finished with 23 points and 13 rebounds, De’Andre Hunter dropped 20 points and Clint Capela grabbed 17 rebounds. Trae Young averages 20.7 points and an NBA-best 12.0 assists, Johnson posts 20.1 points and 9.9 rebounds per game and Hunter scores 18.7 points a night.
Los Angeles conceded a franchise-record 24 3-pointers on Wednesday night while taking a 134-93 pounding at the Miami Heat. The Lakers were just 5-of-22 from deep at their end. LeBron James went for 29 points and eight assists while Rui Hachimura scored 14 points. Anthony Davis, who had just eight points on 3-of-14 shooting, is averaging 26.9 points and 11.3 rebounds, with James booking 22.3 points and 9.0 assists per game. D’Angelo Russell gets 12.4 points per contest.
Friday’s game is the first of two meetings this season between the teams, with the return trip to Los Angeles by the Hawks set for Jan. 3.
