One of those losses came in historically embarrassing fashion against their opponents today, the Minnesota Timberwolves (12-11). In that game Minnesota won by 49 points dominating Los Angeles in every facet of the game. Anthony Edwards only scored eight points in 26 minutes during that win as the Minnesota defense and bench imposed its will on Los Angeles. That game was a wake up call for Los Angeles and the team’s limitations around LeBron James and Anthony Davis who got off to red hot starts, but have cooled down some since.

James started the season playing all 14 games averaging 23.5 points, 9.4 assists and 8.1 rebounds per game on 51-41-74 shooting splits. Since then his shooting has fallen off a cliff, primarily from three where he has made just 15 total three-pointers on 27.8% shooting.

This season Los Angeles is 9-3 when Davis scores 30 or more points. That level of production and scoring pace is not something Davis has been able to sustain over the course of a season. In his 12 year career Davis has never scored 30 or more points in more than 36 times in a season. Los Angeles is going to need more players to step up around James and Davis to be true contenders this season.

Minnesota has started to find its identity on the defensive end over the last five games. During this stretch the team is 4-1 overall allowing 92 points or less in their four wins.
