Tyrese Haliburton and the Indiana Pacers host Ja Morant and the Memphis Grizzlies in preseason basketball on Monday.
The Memphis Grizzlies are gearing up for the regular season where they have the opportunity to be the surprise team in the league after finishing with the seventh-worst record in the league. One of the biggest variables for Memphis this season is the addition of rookie big man Zach Edey. He was drafted ninth overall and will play a big role for Memphis this season with Jaren Jackson Jr. and GG Jackson on the mend. They take on last season’s surprise team, the Indiana Pacers, who are coming off a surprise run to the Eastern Conference Finals. Tyrese Haliburton led the league in total assists, made the All-NBA third team and won a Gold Medal with Team USA at the Paris Olympics.

Haliburton will look to lead Indiana back to the playoffs with one of the deepest rosters in the league. One of the keys for Indiana this season is third year wing Bennedict Mathurin, who missed the team’s final 18 games and the playoffs after performing like a potential Sixth Man of the Year last season.
With Mathurin back in the lineup he brings 15.8 points and 4.0 rebounds per game back to the bench unit. That unit already features playoff star T.J. McConnell, Obi Toppin, Isaiah Jackson, Ben Sheppard and Jarace Walker.
For Memphis, the preseason is all about the development of Edey. He has looked strong in three games, averaging 10.3 points, 6.7 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game in just 20.7 minutes per game. He is coming off his best game of the preseason with 15 points, eight rebounds, four assists and three blocks in Memphis’ win over the Chicago Bulls.
