The Minnesota Timberwolves need a win over the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 5 on Wednesday to keep their hopes alive for a first NBA Finals appearance.

The Oklahoma City Thunder are back on their home turf for a potential Game 5 decider against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday. A win would take the Thunder back to the NBA Finals for the first time in 13 years. The Thunder lead 3-1 as they return to the Paycom Center, where they earlier took a two-game lead in the Western Conference finals thanks to back-to-back tide-turning displays from Shai Gilgeous-Alexander swung the series in their favor. Mark Daigneault’s side has won five in a row, as the home team is looking to oust the Timberwolves from the Conference finals for the second time in as many years.

A narrow 128-126 win in Minneapolis on Monday saw Oklahoma City take firm control of the series, with Daigneault deservedly praising his outfit for what he called a “great team win.”

MVP Gilgeous-Alexander enjoyed a performance befitting his latest accolade on Monday after leading OKC with 40 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists at the Target Center.

Jalen Williams also played a critical role with 34 points, while Chet Holmgren’s contribution of 21 points, seven rebounds and three blocks helped pave the way to a gritty result.

It was the perfect response to a 42-point blowout in Game 3, and the Timberwolves face an uphill challenge in seeking to inflict what would be just a second home defeat in nine playoff games for the Thunder.

The good news for Minnesota is it has already managed the feat this season after beating Oklahoma City 131-128 in overtime at the Paycom Center back in February.

And the Timberwolves did so without the absent trio of Rudy Gobert, Donte DiVincenzo and Julius Randle, each of whom will once again be available this time around.
