It’s finally here, the 2025 NBA Finals. Coming out of the Western Conference is the Oklahoma City Thunder (68-14), who reached this point after finishing with the best record in the NBA this season, then beat the Memphis Grizzlies, the Denver Nuggets and the Minnesota Timberwolves in the playoffs. They’ll face an Indiana Pacers (50-32) team that is a bit more of a surprise in this spot – the Pacers finished fourth in the Eastern Conference and then knocked off the top-seeded Cleveland Cavaliers in the conference semifinals before beating the New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference Finals. Game 1 between the two teams is Thursday night.

The Thunder have a deep roster but are led by NBA MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. ‘SGA’ was the league’s leading scorer this year, averaging 32.7 points per game while shooting 51.9% from the floor and 37.5 percent from three.

Indiana’s offense features a more balanced attack, with seven players averaging double-figures in the regular season and six doing so in the playoffs. Pascal Siakam has been their leading scorer in both, but Tyrese Haliburton isn’t far behind and is the guy they’ve turned to in clutch moments.

There were two regular season meetings between the Thunder and Pacers this year. Oklahoma City won both, with a 120-114 victory in Indy in late December, and then a 132-111 win in Oklahoma City in late March.

Both of these franchises are looking for their first title of any kind since the 1970s. The Oklahoma City organization won its last and only title in 1979, but that was as the Seattle SuperSonics. The Pacers won three ABA titles in the early 70’s, but have only made the NBA finals just one before, in 2000.
