French native Victor Wembanyama went off on Thursday to lead the San Antonio Spurs (20-22) to a blowout win over the Indiana Pacers (24-20) in the first of two games between the teams at Accor Arena in Paris. The series concludes on Saturday with the Spurs as the designated home team for the second game. The victory snapped a three-game losing streak for San Antonio while the Pacers lost for just the second time this month, falling to 8-2 in January.

The Spurs blew Thursday’s game open in the third quarter, shooting 73.9% and hitting 7-of-10 from deep en route to a 140-110 victory. Wembanyama finished with 30 points, 11 rebounds and five blocks while Devin Vassell added 25 points and Harrison Barnes tossed in 20. Wembanyama averages 24.6 points, 10.8 rebounds and an NBA-best 4.0 blocks, with Vassell posting 16.6 points per game and Chris Paul booking 9.4 points and 8.2 assists a night.
Bennedict Mathurin led Indiana with 24 points and Pascal Siakam chipped in with 18 in Thursday’s loss. Siakam averages 20.1 points and 7.3 rebounds, with Tyrese Haliburton putting up 17.8 points and 8.8 assists per game.
San Antonio is 12th in the Western Conference, 1.5 games behind the 10th-place Phoenix Suns for the final play-in berth and four games back of the sixth-place LA Clippers. The Pacers are fifth in the East, two games behind the fourth-place Milwaukee Bucks in the race for homecourt advantage in the first round and one game ahead of the Detroit Pistons.
