The Houston Rockets try to avoid losing five in a row when they travel to tip-off against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

This season series between the Houston Rockets and Minnesota Timberwolves is tied 1-1 going into Game 3 on Thursday night. The Timberwolves won the last matchup two days after Christmas by just a point after Anthony Edwards hit a three-pointer with just 23 seconds left in the game. Houston let that one get away from them as the Rockets were up 12 points with just three minutes left in regulation. This matchup is essentially a coin flip as well with Minnesota holding a slight 1.5-point advantage in the line. Houston is still in third in the Western Conference but only a half game up on the Denver Nuggets after the Rockets have lost four in a row.

The Rockets are coming off another close loss dropping to the Brooklyn Nets 99-97 in their last game on Tuesday. Keon Johnson and D’Angelo Russell spoiled Houston’s night both making threes in the final 10 seconds of the game. Johnson led the Nets with 22 points while Alperen Sengun led the Rockets with 24 points. Jalen Green had a chance to be the hero but he missed a deep three at the buzzer to break Brooklyn’s 11-game losing streak at home. The Nets only have 17 wins but swept the season series against a very good Houston team in the process. The road only gets tougher tonight.

The Timberwolves are playing on back-to-back nights though after hosting the Chicago Bulls in a 127-108. The Bulls no longer have Zach LaVine and Chicago largely struggled in the second half without him. But it was the Anthony Edwards show once again with the Minnesota superstar scoring 49 points to dominate the game. The T’Wolves started the game on a 22-4 run but Chicago kept battling back. Edwards scored 20 points in the third quarter alone to shift the narrative of the game though to get up another 21 points. Minnesota avoided losing three straight in the process.
